Pulmonary Medicine
The Pulmonary Medicine department provides an active diagnostic and therapeutic service to the hospital that covers the entire spectrum of respiratory disorders. In addition to in-patients and ICU patients, OPDs are conducted daily. A state-of-the-art lung function laboratory assesses PFT of at least 30 patients daily. The department also runs specialized clinics like Smoking Cessation Clinic and Sleep Study Lab.
Common diseases treated by pulmonologists include asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD), emphysema, lung cancer, interstitial and occupational lung diseases, complex lung and pleural infections including tuberculosis, pulmonary hypertension, and cystic fibrosis.
- Sleep studies (Polysomnography)
- Assessment for domiciliary non-invasive ventilatory support
- Bronchoscopy service including BAL
- Transbronchial lung biopsies and Wang-needle biopsies
- Complete pulmonary (lung) function testing
- PFT machine : A test that gives results about how well are the lungs functioning
- Bronchoscopy : A scope that can examine airway for any obstruction, infection or issues
- BIPAP (bi-level positive airway pressure) machine : A machine that helps in easy breathing for people with respiratory issues
- Endobronchial ultrasound (Ebus) : An ultrasound attached bronchoscope that is used to examine different types of lung disorders including cancer and infections.

12th National Update In Respiratory Medicine
The Department of Pulmonary Medicine at P. D. Hinduja Hospital, Mahim warmly welcomes you to the 12th National Respiratory Update to be held from 24th -26th February 2023 in Mumbai.
The three-day conference will cover a wide variety of respiratory topics with eminent international and national speakers. The scientific program has been carefully crafted to include lectures that would help physicians enhance their knowledge and aid in day-to-day practice.
Dr. Radhika Banka
After completing her post graduate residency training at PD Hinduja National Hospital, Mumbai in 2016, Dr Banka moved to UK where she worked at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals followed by at the Oxford Pleural Unit, Oxford University Hospitals, UK and relocated back to India.
During her stint in UK, she gained immense experience in multidisciplinary management of common respiratory illnesses including asthma, COPD, Interstitial Lung Diseases, Pneumonia, Lung cancer and tuberculosis.
Dr. Zarir F. Udwadia
Dr. Udwadia is interested in all general medical problems but has special training as a chest physician. His special interests include: TB, MDR-TB, ILD, Pulmonary infections, Difficult asthma, Sleep disorders, and COVID.
Dr. Jai Mullerpattan
After completing his MBBS training from Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai, Dr. Mullerpattan did his post-graduation in Respiratory Medicine from P. D. Hinduja National Hospital and MRC where he has received training in his speciality including procedures such as bronchoscopy. He has also worked for 1 year in the Critical Care Department (ICU) of Hinduja Hospital where he was exposed to various aspects of critical care including handling of emergencies and ventilators. Post his DNB in Respiratory Medicine in 2011, he has worked in the department of Respiratory Medicine.
